Sports Events by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club

Post by birkirkarastjosephsc on Tue Apr 22, 2008 8:05 am

Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club organises, during the year, fifteen events namely, four sprint triathlons (750m swim, 20K bike, 5K run), four 5K road running races, five 2K open water swimming races, one 4K open water swimming race, and the Gozo-Malta Open Water Swimming Challenge (5.2K). The distances chosen by the organisers are not solely aimed at seasoned sportspersons, but also to encourage newcomers into the sport, whether they want to take it seriously or else to do it just for fun, fitness or to make new friends.

All club events are held to the highest safety standards possible. Race routes are closed for traffic, a paramedic team and ambulance are always in attendance during triathlon races, swimming routes are clearly marked and marshaled, etc. The Club can boast that all the events it has organised to date have been accident free.

Through its qualified coaches, Birkirkara St. Joseph also offers, at very reasonable prices, coaching sessions in triathlon, swimming and athletics (road running).

Further information, news, articles, etc. is available on the Club's website www.bkarastjoseph.com

How is the format this year? If you miss one race from any of the series (swimming, running and triathlon) are you out of the overall competition? In short if I miss first race for a valid reason (like being abroad)... am I out of the the overall competition? Thanks a lot

B'Kara's Triathlon Races

Post by maltatriathlon on Thu May 15, 2008 10:00 pm

Hello Luke,

Unfortunately, yes. For B'Kara's Triathlon Races are 4/4 which means you have to do all 4 to qualify for any trophies or prize-money. But you never know: maybe everyone else will miss a Race, in which case you will have a chance to qualify anyway! Good luck with your Course and hope you're doing well. Manuel lol!:

Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Events

Luke may be Strong, but by the look of it he is also very Busy. He had time to look at the Calendar of Events 2008 but too busy to look at the respective regulations on the same page. One has to enter in all the races of the Triathlon Series and the Swimming Series to qualify in the final classification. In the 5K Road Running Series an athlete has to enter two of the first three races, while the fourth race in compulsory. One hopes Luke doesn't get penalty points in his course credits de to his overlooking important details! Good luck, Lukie boy!!

KEITH GALEA, DANICA SPITERI WIN FIRST 2 KILOMETRE RACE

Post by birkirkarastjosephsc on Thu Jun 12, 2008 2:23 pm

Last year’s open water swimming series winner Keith Galea, managed to out sprint his rivals to notch up his first victory in the 2008 series. Malta triathlon champion Danica Spiteri was dominant in the females’ race, winning by an impressive margin over the chasing group which included defending champion Isabelle Zarb.

This first race in a series of six, organized by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club under the auspices of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, was held in perfect conditions for the 36 swimmers of various categories taking part. Up to the last 500 metres of the males’ race nothing separated Keith Galea, Simon Zammit and Nicky Farrugia until the final turning point when all three swimmers opened their sprints. Galea hit the finish first in 30 minutes 18 seconds, followed by Zammit four seconds later and Farrugia in 30 minutes 28 seconds.

By the first 500 metres lap Danica Spiteri opened an insurmountable gap over the other female swimmers, by which time she wrapped up her first victory, swimming the two kilometers in 31 minutes 4 seconds. However, second place was highly contested, with Roberta Zammit managing to finish ahead of reigning series champion Isabelle Zarb with a four seconds margin in a finishing time of 34 minutes 32 seconds.

The second race in this Open Water Swimming Series will be another 2 kilometres on Wednesday, 25th June, 2008. More information at www.bkarastjoseph.com
